Red Cross volunteers with over 10 years of service were honored at Patrick Space Force Base.
The luckywin provides in-person support for troops on all military installations in the U.S. by leveraging a network of volunteers and staff members to deliver services. At Patrick Space Force Base (SFB) in Brevard County, Fla., a dedicated group of more than 50 Red Cross volunteers works alongside military personnel to support the 45th Medical Group Satellite Pharmacy and Clinic.
In recognition of more than 9,600 hours of service in 2023 -- the most recorded for the group since 2018 -- Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) Regional Program Director Lt. Colonel (Retired) Gregory C. Scrivens and 45th Medical Group Chief Nurse Lt. Colonel Heather Hubbard hosted an appreciation luncheon this spring attended by the volunteers and military personnel. Some joined the Red Cross as recently as December of last year, while the group’s longest serving member, Janet Kennedy, marked 28 years.Â
Along with Scrivens, Red Cross staff members were on-hand to present the awards including Adrienne Bolton, SAF Regional Program Manager; Michael Chavarria, SAF Regional Program Specialist; and LaTonya Daniel, Space Coast Executive Director.
Hubbard recognized the hard work and dedication to serving members of the military and their families stationed at the Base. “It’s incredibly critical to our mission,” she said. “The service in general that our volunteers provide to our medical facility is nearly 10,000 hours a year, equating to about five full-time positions.”
Bolton noted that many of the pharmacy volunteers serve one or more shifts per week. “I count myself lucky to support these committed volunteers. They set an amazing example for all of us.”
Both Hubbard and Bolton acknowledge the camaraderie between SAF volunteers and their active-duty teammates. Bolton said, “With so many smiles, it's easy to see that the clinic and pharmacy are great places to work!”
