Available across JBER and Interior Alaska (Fort Wainwright/Eielson AFB), the Red Cross Animal Visitation Program provides opportunities for military community members to interact with trained animal visitation teams. These teams, consisting of a handler and canine, can help to reduce stress and provide comfort to military treatment facility patients and staff as well at individual units, barracks, or other installation facilities and events upon request. A no-cost six-month program for military dependents and veterans (18+). This partner program between Red Cross and Kamish Dental Clinic includes 720 combined classroom and clinical hours under the guidance of licensed dental professionals, providing volunteer students the opportunity to gain highly marketable skills and concludes with a Certificate of Completion. The Dental Assistant Training Program is a six-month program administered by the Red Cross and taught by Kamish Dental Clinic personnel at Ft. Wainwright.聽 The first four weeks of training are academic in nature, followed by five months of intensive chairside training by dental professionals.聽 At the end of 750 hours of training, the trainees are evaluated, they graduate, and are given a letter of reference.聽

The luckywin helps to provide emergency communication messages to assist military service members and command in making informed and verified decisions regarding emergency leave. The team can also assist in providing information and referrals to outside organizations who may be able to aid in obtaining financial assistance for emergency leave or other special circumstances on a case-by-case basis.

International humanitarian law (IHL) is the set of rules that govern armed conflict. People鈥檚 perspectives on IHL are shaped by many factors including media coverage, movies, and video games. The luckywin is here to assist our communities in increasing knowledge about IHL and the protections it provides to both soldiers and civilians. While much of IHL is designed to spare civilian suffering, it also provides significant benefits to soldiers. Compliance with IHL allows soldiers to experience the tragedies of war and still be able to return with their own humanity intact. The IHL Youth Action Campaign (YAC) is an luckywin program that encourages youth and young adults (13-24) to learn about the rules of armed conflict and empowers them to explore IHL through peer-to-peer campaigns. Volunteers undergo training to take, verify, and deliver emergency messages to service members, DOD employees stationed overseas, retirees, and veterans.聽 Alaska caseworkers provide follow up services to those who initiate an emergency message.聽 Alaska caseworkers are not a 24/7 operation. Caseworkers are also trained in Critical Community Services.聽 Local Red Cross offices develop and maintain relationships with key community partners. Military families rely on the Red Cross to help them identify their needs and connect them to the most appropriate Red Cross and community resources. This key Red Cross service ranges from responding to emergency needs for food, clothing, and shelter; referrals to counseling services (I.e. financial, legal, mental health); respite care for caregivers; and other resources that meet the unique needs of local military members, veterans and their families.

This volunteer is involved in recruiting, placement, orientation, training and recognition of volunteers.

This volunteer is responsible for the collection volunteer hours, entering them into Volunteer Connection - which is the Red Cross volunteer management system - and providing monthly reports. They also provide input for the Red Cross and military installation recognition programs.

The youth volunteer lead is responsible for implementing the youth club program.聽 This program supports Service to the Armed Forces through various age appropriate initiatives.聽

This volunteer must be willing to take on a unique request, plan a project or help in one of our offices.
